Counselling & Psychotherapy
What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
In many ways both counselling and psychotherapy are the same and there is very little difference in what might happen in a session. In general the word ‘counselling’ is used to describe shorter term work (weeks or months) in which people talk through difficulties around events in their lives. It provides an opportunity to explore your feelings and to explore choices available to you.
Psychotherapy is usually longer term (months or years) and more in-depth, and is often concerned with how a person experiences themselves and their relationships with others and how their past may be impacting them in the present.
Counselling and psychotherapy do not involve giving advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action.
I provide a non-judgemental, safe and confidential environment and I am committed to acknowledging the intrinsic worth and the capacity of individuals to change.

How am I safeguarded?
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Metanoia Institute. As a member of these professional bodies I am bound by their strict code of ethics which is published on their websites:
My client work is supervised but your identity and personal details are protected. All that takes place within a session remains confidential between you and I. The only exceptions to this are if you are involved in serious illegal activities or are at risk of damaging yourself or someone else.
I hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.
How much will it cost?
My fees are £40 per 50 minute session and I would usually see a client once a week. Some concessionary rates are available.
How do I make an appointment?
If you would like more information about counselling or psychotherapy, or would like to make an appointment for an initial meeting do contact me. If I am not able to answer your call, please leave a message and I will call you back.

What will happen at our first meeting?
We will discuss what you hope to achieve from counselling or psychotherapy. I will listen and let you know if your aim is within my area of competence. There is no charge for this initial consultation as this is a mutual process where you and I assess if we wish to work together. If I think I am not able to help, I will try and refer you to another professional.
Where are you located?
I provide a tranquil setting and free off-road parking. Please see the map below (click here for a more detailed map).
